The Cooking Matters two-hour weekly workshop runs for 6-weeks.

The interactive sessions presented by trained culinary and nutrition

instructorswill include the following:

  • Quick and afforadable recipes

  • General nutrional principles

Cooking Matters

Cooking Matters at the Store is an interactive 90 minute session facilitated by an Oakwood Registered Dietitian at a grocery store, which includes comprehensive skill-based education that empowers shoppers with the ability to make healthy affordable choices.

During the 90 minute tour, participants are empowered with four key food skills:

  • Reading food labels

  • Comparing unit prices

  • Finding whole grain foods

  • Identifying three ways to purchase produce

Cooking Matters
at the Store

Cooking Matters EXTRA for Diabetes™ provides specialized recipes and information for adults living with diabetes and their caregivers. The workshop is appropriate for people who are newly diagnosed as well as those who have been living with type 2 diabetes for years, and those with pre-diabetes.

This class is not intended for Medical Nutrition Therapy, nor is it designed to replace a clinical Diabetes Self-Management Education course. Class includes:

 

  • Reading food labels

  • Comparing unit prices

  • Finding whole grain foods

  • Identifying three ways to purchase produce

No matter what health concern you have, individual nutrition counseling is available with Oakwood's outpatient dietitian to help you develop an eating plan designed around you and your goals.
